Proximal began two years ago with a vision that encapsulated the means to assist small and medium businesses in navigating the sometimes expensive and complicated world of marketing.  That vision now is a viable product backed by some of the best in the marketing business with over 20+ years of combined experience.


BizStarts of Milwaukee is excited to present the October 2016 Featured Entrepreneur, Robert Tye. Each month, BizStarts highlights an entrepreneur and their company to provide inspiration to other Milwaukee entrepreneurs.

What is your professional background?

I have been involved with banking for a vast majority of professional history.  Most recently that banking experience involved bank management.  In 2014 I decided to change career paths and instead go after my passion… entrepreneurialism.


What product/service does your organization sell?

Proximal is an all-inclusive marketing app.  It allows businesses to reach their consumer in real time with deals and events via Shoutouts that pertain to their business in the now.  It uses geo-targeted technology to ensure the people you are reaching are consumers who are in the here and now.


What challenges have you experienced professionally, and how did you overcome them?

Professionally I have experienced the difficulties associated with marketing your small business.  Moving into entrepreneurship with its successes and failures was the enabling drive that helped to form the idea and now viable product that is Proximal.


 What has been the most rewarding about running your own business?

The most rewarding aspect of running my own business is the satisfaction that comes from knowing that I am helping other small business owners such as myself to navigate the world of marketing and the success that comes with the successful integration of said tactics.  I can now sit back and watch as small businesses directly connect with their consumer and the successes it brings with it.


What are your goals for 2016? How do you plan on achieving your goals?

Being that we are so new, our set goal at the moment is to connect with a large portion of small businesses throughout southeastern Wisconsin by March 2017.  Our consumer market needs to grow as well, something we are planning to expand on by holding free events to show how Proximal works for them.


Where do you see your company in 5 years?

In five years I see Proximal as a major tool being used by small-medium size businesses across the United States and leading into Europe.


How has BizStarts helped you and/or your organization grow?

We are hoping that the exposure that BizStarts promotes will enable our consumer base to grow and in so doing will provide the continued success we have been seeing with Proximal.


What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

Never give up.  Stick to your plan and don’t become discouraged if you hear NO.  If you believe in your product you will find the right person to believe in you.

I would like to thank John Limbach for reaching out and becoming my mentor in this process.


Is there anything else about your entrepreneurial journey you would like to share?


Sometimes the most difficult part about this journey is getting your idea across.  The best way to forego this issue is to make sure that you, yourself understand fully your idea and plan.  Have an in-depth business plan from the get-go, surround yourself with a great team and don’t be afraid to let your vision adapt.
